Captain D'Aguilar,
Sir,
Assistant Military Secretary &,
Victoria
Hongkong, May 2nd 1844.
I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated yesterday with copy of one from Major Aldrich.
His Excellency the Governor is greatly surprised at the Land Officer's having taken upon himself to sanction the extension of the Western Boundary of the Cantonment at Chuk Chau, which is the more unaccountable as Mr. Gordon was himself present at the laying down of the limits fixed by the Assistant Quarter Master General in March, 1843, and was moreover perfectly aware of the Governor's sentiments on the whole question.
